Course ObjectiveIn-depth exploration of a topic in ancient Near Eastern history and
Course ContentStudents can choose between two topics:
a) a subject concerning Syriac or other Near Eastern Christianities or
Late Antiquity 100-1000 CE (supervised by Bas ter Haar Romeny), or
b) reading Akkadian texts (supervised by K. Kleber or I. Peled).
Method of AssessmentPaper.
Entry RequirementsChoice a: no special requirements;
Choice b: knowledge of Akkadian and cuneiform signs (at least one full
LiteratureDepends on the chosen topic. Will be announced by the tutor.

Additional InformationThis is a tutorial, meaning that there are no regular weekly course
meetings. Students who want to do the tutorial contact the chosen tutor
and discuss a topic with him/her. The student will then work
independently on his/her own, with occasional input from the tutor, and
he/she will deliver a written paper at the end of the term.
