Tutorial Ancient Near Eastern History and Culture

Course Objective

In-depth exploration of a topic in ancient Near Eastern history and
culture.

Course Content

Students can choose between two topics:
a) a subject concerning Syriac or other Near Eastern Christianities or
Late Antiquity 100-1000 CE (supervised by Bas ter Haar Romeny), or
b) reading Akkadian texts (supervised by K. Kleber or I. Peled).

Paper.

Entry Requirements

Choice a: no special requirements;
Choice b: knowledge of Akkadian and cuneiform signs (at least one full
year).

Literature

Depends on the chosen topic. Will be announced by the tutor.

MA and ReMa students in Classics and Ancient Civilizations, Ancient
Studies, Ancient History, Theology

Additional Information

This is a tutorial, meaning that there are no regular weekly course
meetings. Students who want to do the tutorial contact the chosen tutor
and discuss a topic with him/her. The student will then work
independently on his/her own, with occasional input from the tutor, and
he/she will deliver a written paper at the end of the term.
