Course ObjectiveStudents learn to build a scientific argument, using academic English.
Course ContentThe practice of academic writing will be introduced in a number of oral
lectures. In subsequent study groups students will practice in a number
of small assignments, using available videoclips and (digital) academic
writing guides. Through interactive tutorials and assignments,
students will be familiarized with and practice citing and paraphrasing,
argumentation, and structuring (academic) texts. Peer review and
discussion on these writing is core, and takes place under supervision
of a qualified teacher. Students write a draft research proposal in
their field of interest.
Teaching MethodsStudy group meetings and working in peer groups.
Method of AssessmentParticipation in the study group and written assignment.

Target AudienceStudents in the Premaster Political Science.
Recommended background knowledgeKnowledge of main research methods / skills, as well as how to come up
with academic research questions and how to write a literature review on
a topic of political science.
