Course Objective

The student
• has in-depth knowledge of diagnostics and case selection of
endodontic problems including complex trauma cases and unexplained pain
The student is able to perform
• cases treated in the second year additional to those already
attempted in the 1st year:
• complicated non-surgical retreatments with iatrogenic damage
• cases of DETI B class II
• in special situations DETI B class III could also be performed
under supervision of a 3rd year or a senior teacher

The risk and difficulty of every root canal treatment is determined by
the Dutch Endodontic Treatment Index (DETI) score according to Ree et
al. ( International Endodontic Journal 2003) as described under the "1st
year clinical course"

Course Content

During this clinical course, the student will diagnose and treat
patients in the endodontic clinic under guidance of a senior staff
Further, the second-year students participate in the twice-weekly
patient discussions, in which the clinical staff of the endodontic
clinic is involved. During those meetings, all new patients are being
discussed, as well as patients whose treatment is evolving unexpectedly.

Additional Information

Entry requirements: The student needs to have passed the first-year
Clinical Courses successfully before being admitted to the second-year
Clinical Course.
