Course Objective

The student
• has in-depth knowledge of diagnostics and case selection of
endodontic problems with more complicated
• is able to perform
- cases treated in the second year additional to those already
attempted in the 1st and 2nd year:
- cases of DETI B class III
- surgical cases

The risk and difficulty of every root canal treatment is determined by
the Dutch Endodontic Treatment Index (DETI) score according to Ree et
al. ( International Endodontic Journal 2003) as described under the "1st
year clinical course"

Course Content

During this clinical course, the student will diagnose and treat
patients in the endodontology clinic with more complicated cases under
tight guidance of a senior staff member (advanced level of skills).
Surgical cases will be treated in the dedicated surgery room
The students participate in the twice weekly patient discussions, in
which the clinical staff of the endodontic clinic is involved. During
those meetings, all new patients are being discussed, as well as
patients whose treatment is evolving.

Grading
A prerequisite for grade registration (Good; Pass; Fail) is successful
completion of both the Competence Overview and the Final Defence of
Clinical Cases.

Additional Information

Admission prerequisites: The student needs to have passed the Second-
year Clinical Course successfully before being admitted to the third-
year Clinical Course.
