• is able to translate a scientific question into a research
project that is aimed to answer that question in a research proposal.
This includes a well-considered application of a study design and
• is able to design a research protocol that is considered to be
feasible, taking into account a limited amount of time to perform the
experiments and possible setbacks that can be experienced practically.
• is able to present and defend the relevant contents of a research
• If relevant, the student has knowledge regarding the national and
international requirements for performing experiments that include human
or animal subjects. Furthermore, he/she has knowledge regarding
procedures that leads to permission of the appropriate Ethical Board.
Course ContentThe Research track continues throughout the whole period of the
postgraduate Master’s programme. Part of the necessary theoretical
background will be provided by modules such as "Evidence Based Dentistry
in Oral Health Care" and "Methods and Statistics".
Each student is required to define a research project, design a research
protocol, perform the relevant experiments and present the results in a
thesis that will be part of the final exam. In the first phase, the
subject of the research project has to be defined in agreement with the
relevant department and the instructor. Furthermore, the research
protocol has to be designed. At the end of the first semester a
preliminary research protocol has to be produced in preparation of the
final one, at the end of the second semester.

The student needs to pass all components undermentioned
• a written abstract of the research protocol
• completion of the corresponding research protocol
• Good; Pass; or Fail
LiteratureScientific literature, selection based on research topic.
