The student
• is able to present and discuss his own scientific research
project in a multi-disciplinary setting
• is able to analyse, present and discuss a scientific presentation
• has knowledge of problems and design associated with clinical
research

Course Content

In this course, all Oral Health Sciences students get together with the
profile directors, lecturers and other scientists who
are involved in the students’ research projects. This course is meant to
develop the student’s capacity to present and discuss his own
research project in its various stages (design, research proposal,
execution and reporting) in an interdisciplinary setting and to learn
from, reflect on, and question the research presentations of other
students.

In each session, a number of students give a presentation. First year
students present in-depth information from selected literature of their
own graduation profile and second and third year students present the
background to and the aims, hypotheses, methods and progress of their
research project. The presentations are critically appraised
scientifically from interdisciplinary points of view by at least two
members of staff. Attention is also paid to form, language use and
presentation.

In general, the presentations are in a "pitch" format (to be compared to
an IADR-format*), in the sense that students present their proposal,
results, etc. in about 10 minutes whereafter there is an equal time for
questions.

All students are expected to actively participate in the discussions and
to contribute to the group discussion with findings from their own
research projects.

Method of Assessment

Learning assessment
• Presentation of the current state of the research (year 1) or research
project (year 2 and 3). Depending on the year the assessment form is
chosen.

Grading
• Good; Pass; or Fail.

Literature

Students will have to include relevant clinical and scientific
literature in their presentations.
