Treatment Strategies in Implantology Dentistry

Course Objective

The student has/is:
• in-depth knowledge of treatment strategies for patients with a reduced
dentition
• competent knowledge of the limitations of crown and bridgework,
partial and complete denture prosthodontics, orthodontics and
maxillofacial surgery when restoring oral function.
• in-depth knowledge of the role of Oral implants in restoring Oral
Function
• in-depth knowledge of different implant systems and their indication

Course Content

The goal of this module is to provide the students enrolled in the
specialist course Oral Implantology and Implant Prosthetics with the
appropriate knowledge and skills to plan a complete implant treatment.
The student must recognize the prosthetic problems involved with loss of
teeth and periodontal structures and must be able to provide an adequate
solution for the treatment thereof. The student must recognize the
limitations of Oral Implants and Implant prosthodontics and be able to
provide alternative treatment plans if indicated. All necessary pre
implant treatment skills must be achieved and the student must have the
ability to provide the planned Implant supported superstructure and
communicate in writing with referring dentists. The student gets to
practice these skills and is offered feedback on his writing.

Method of Assessment

Learning assessment
The student needs to pass all components undermentioned
• Overall assessment of assignments during the seminars (grade: Good;
Pass; or Fail)
• Written exam (grade: 1-10)

Grading
A prerequisite for grade registration (grade 1-10) is successful
completion of the seminar assignments. In case of a fail for one or more
of the seminar assignments and a pass for the final exam, a 5.0 will be
registered and students will need to retake the relevant seminar
assignments.
