Ethics and Academic Skills

2019-2020

Course Objective

Design a course or part of a course as a teacher in order to learn about
the integration of all Dublin descriptors.

Course Content

Ethics and Academic Skills is a name for a broad field. Academic skills
are described in the so-called Dublin descriptors: knowledge and
insight, application of knowledge and insight, judgment, communication
and learning skills. You train the abovementioned skills during your
master's degree in different ways. This course zooms in on the
skills design, writing and judgment. Responsible ethically acting as a
researcher comes as part of the course. At the end of the course:
- you know the basics to design an educational assignment on level
100-400
- you will have insight in the learning process
- You will recognize the variety in learning styles
- You will have insight in coupling learning outcomes with learning
activities and assessments
- You can assess the level of learning activities
- You can make decisions that form the basis of the preparation for good
rubrics as a method for assessing tests.
- You know the guidelines to do science in an ethically responsible
manner
- You have tested these guidelines in fictional situations and judged
choices of action

Teaching Methods

Since it has been proven that teaching is the best method for acquiring
knowledge and gain insight, you will design educational assignments in
this course and study the applied method intensively. Self-reflection
and feedback plays an important role in this. You design step by step
learning activities based on learning objectives. You design, discuss
and discusses the various steps in this and the method of testing
(summative, formative). You will also design rubrics for the assessment
of the test. The products you deliver can possibly form the basis for
real educational components.
