Course Objective

Providing a clear overview on the principles and techniques that can be
used for the qualitative and quantitative determination of protein-type
of compounds.

Course Content

The qualitative and quantitative determination of proteins frequently is
performed by a combination of chromatographic /electrophoretic and mass
spectrometric techniques. The principles of these techniques will be
discussed as well as their applications. Special attention will be given
to sample treatment procedures and affinity-based separation techniques.
With respect to the identification of unknown biological macromolecules,
the power of hyphenated techniques in combination with the various modes
of mass spectrometry will be highlighted.

Basic knowledge of biochemistry, separation sciences, spectroscopy and
mass spectrometry.
