Course Objective

Acquisition of the ability to read easy Sumerian texts.

Course Content

You will continue learning the grammar and the writing system of
Sumerian, but now you will also start reading the first Sumerian texts.

Teaching Methods

Mostly seminar (reading texts that students prepare at home before the
class meetings), occasionally lecture-parts.

Method of Assessment

Take-home exam (term paper)

Entry Requirements

Successfull accomplishment of Sumerian 1 (offered in period 1 of
2018/19).

Literature

Will be announced via Canvas.

Target Audience

BA-students in Ancient Studies, History, Religion, Linguistics. Students
interested in ancient languages.

Recommended background knowledge

I recommend a knowledge of Akkadian and cuneiform. Students who do not
have this, should contact the instructor latest in June 2018 in order to
receive self-study material for the summer.
