Course ObjectiveAfter finishing this course, the student will have a basic knowledge of
Akkadian allowing her/him to read a variety of texts with some help,
which includes texts from the Laws of Hammurabi.
Course ContentTeaching of grammar, vocabulary and cuneiform signs. This course
continues and expands on what the students have learned in Elementary
Akkadian 1. Student will read their first "real" texts from the Laws of
Teaching MethodsLecture, seminar (werkcollege)
Method of AssessmentWritten examination.
Entry RequirementsThe course Elementary Akkadian and A History of Ancient Mesopotamian
LiteratureJohn Huehnergard, A Grammar of Akkadian (Harvard Semitic Studies).
Target AudienceStudents of Oudheidwetenschappen who specialize in the languages and
cultures of the Near East.
The course can also be taken as an elective by students who meet the
requirements specified above.
