Econometrics and Operations Research consists of a regular programme as well as an Econometrics and Data Science specialization. Directly from the start of your study you choose one of these directions.
If you choose the (regular) Econometrics and Operations Research (EOR) specialization, you will learn how to model and solve economic and business problems using mathematical techniques while paying attention to ethical aspects of mathematical modelling. If you choose the Econometrics and Data Science (EDS) specialization, the focus is on the core methods of econometrics, computer science, and statistics and you'll learn about the ethical aspects of data science.
For both the regular EOR programme and the EDS specialization, during the first year you will primarily focus on the foundations of mathematics, programming, probability theory and statistics, combined with economics and finance.
In the second year of the regular EOR programme you will deepen your knowledge of each of the three areas of EOR: Econometrics, Operations Research and Mathematical Economics. In the second year of EDS you will deepen your knowledge of each of the three areas of EDS: econometrics, computer science, and statistics.
For both the regular EOR programme as well as EDS, the first semester of the third year you will have complete freedom of choice (called the minor). You can opt for a minor within or outside the faculty, an internship, or a period abroad. In the second semester, you will choose and deepen your knowledge by following specialized courses in either EOR or EDS, depending on your specialisation. Finally, you will write a bachelor's thesis on a subject of your interest.
On top of this, excellent and ambitious students are also given the option to follow an additional Honours programme.
