Theology and Religious Studies

2023-2024

The Bachelor's programme in Theology and Religious Studies is a contemporary academic programme that thoroughly studies Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. The programme offers you the opportunity to develop broadly and at the same time has three clear profiles: Christian theology, Islamic theology and religious studies. You can follow a tradition-specific programme within the profiles.

The Bachelor consists of ten core courses that everyone follows together, in-depth profile courses and a minor. The core courses are taught in English. This gives you even more opportunities to develop in theology and religious studies that matter internationally. The instruction language of the profiles Christian theology and Religious Studies is English. The courses in Islamic theology are taught in Dutch, as the seminary Restored Reformed Seminary (HHS). The Bachelor's modules will train you to become an engaged academic with an in-depth understanding of historical and contemporary positions and value of theology and the study of religion - in scholarship, religious communities and society. Dialogical learning in an interfaith setting is one of the programme's core features.

In the third year, you choose a minor to specialise thematically or within a seminary or prepare for a (research) masters. The BA thus prepares undergraduates to critically and reflectively study the relevant questions of today's world while understanding the language of religion, be it in textual, ritual, practical, experiential, institutional or other forms.

If you have questions, please consult your lecturer or the Academic advisor, Inger Groesz.

We wish you an inspiring and successful academic year!

Prof. dr. Dirk Martin Grube (Programme director of the BA programme Theology and Religious Studies)
