Theology and Religious Studies

2026-2027

The bachelor degree in Theology and Religious Studies is a contemporary academic training program that deals with Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. The training offers you the opportunity to develop yourself and your religious affiliations in a broad was and has three specializations: Christian theology, Islamic theology and Religious Studies. You can follow a tradition-specific program within your specialization.

The program consists of ten core courses that everyone follows together, in-depth profile subjects and a minor. The modules of the bachelor train you to become a committed academic with an in-depth concept of your own religious tradition and the ability to take on a leadership function within your tradition. You also learn about the historical and contemporary position and value of theology and religion - in science, in religious communities and in society at large. Dialogical learning in an inter-religious environment is one of the core virtues of the program and aims to better understand other religions and, as a consequence, of your own religious tradition. In the third year, you choose a minor (for example, spiritual care), with which you can specialize thematically or within a seminar, or to prepare for a (research) master. After finishing this study, you are able to reflect on and discuss the relevant questions of today's world from a religious perspective. You have learnt to understand the meaning of the textual, ritual, experiential and other practices of your own and other religions better.

From September 2025 onwards, many bachelor course will be taught in Dutch.

For questions you can contact your teacher or study advisor Inger Groesz.

We wish you an inspiring and successful academic year!
