Course ObjectiveAcquire programming skills and use them to build your own experiments.
Learn the intricacies of experimental design.
Course ContentYou will learn how to design psychological experiments and how to
implement these using the OpenSesame software package and the Python
programming language. Although you will mainly be working with
OpenSesame, which is specificly designed for constructing experiments,
this course will also address general programming principles that will
facilitate the learning of other programming languages in the future. We
will furthermore look at how to efficiently design behavioral
experiments, with the focus on randomization procedures, how to present
visual and auditory stimuli, and on how to record responses of
Teaching Methods7 x 1.5 hour lecture, 14 x 4 hours practicals (compulsory), assignments
(twice a week).
Method of AssessmentOf the 13 assignments, at least 9 need to be marked 6 or higher. At the
end there will be an exam consisting of programming
assignments. You are allowed to bring your book and any other material.
