Drug Action

Course Objective

To obtain a general introduction into and deepening of knowledge of
fundamental principles and molecular aspects of drug action within the
field of molecular pharmacology and receptor biochemistry.

Course Content

Most drugs display their pharmacological actions following the
interactions with receptor proteins. As for the molecular
pharmacological aspects the mechanisms by which these drugs act with
respect to their therapeutic application will be studied. Novel concepts
of pharmacology, including constitutive receptor activity, allosteric
modulation, receptor dimerization and ligand-biased signaling will be
addressed. Important cellular and animal model systems used to
investigate (pathological and pharmacological) aspects of cell biology
in relation to drug discovery will be discussed.
