Research Project Global Environmental Change & Policy


Course Objective

After completing this module the student will be able to:
- Produce an interdisciplinary research proposal of high quality;
- Review and give feedback on interdisciplinary research proposals to
other students and researchers;
- Understand the criteria and practices used to evaluate research
proposals and incorporate them in their own research projects

Course Content

This module coaches students in writing an interdisciplinary research
project (the research proposal). Skills and insights developed during
the previous module Writing Interdisciplinary Research Project are put
in practice during this module. A mid-term draft is peer-reviewed by
fellow students and at the end of the module, the research proposal is
presented to a mock grant commission for assessment. The final product,
the research proposal, should in principle be sound enough to be
submitted to a funding agency. The final project proposal consists of a
state-of-the art section, methods and framework section, section on the
organization and structure of the project, literature. The module
consists of group sessions, individual assignments and feedback moments,
peer-review and public presentation.

Teaching Methods

Tutorials with assignments, and implementation of research proposal
plan. 12 ec = 320 hours in total.
The course will have weekly meetings that will mix lectures and
assignment organization.

Method of Assessment

• Submitted research project plan (70%)
• Presentation of research project plan to commission (20%)
• Peer-review feedback on research project plans of other students (10%)

Entry Requirements

This course is for students admitted to tbe MSc in Earth Sciences,
specialization Global Environmental Change and Policy.
