Heritage Studies

2019-2020

Heritage Studies (Erfgoedstudies) is a one-year, interdisciplinary master's programme for archaeologists, architectural historians, (historical)geographers, historians, policy makers and designers (planners, architects, landscape architects and urban planners). The programme familiarises the student with the most important principles of the historical study of the landscape and the city, contemporary heritage care and the current approach to the cultural-historical values of objects and space in our environment.

In the programme, historical issues and current applications are always approached on the basis of interdisciplinary concepts and from a broad perspective and from the perspective of cultural history (an integration of landscape archaeology, historical geography and architectural history/urban planning history). The programme also offers the student the opportunity to deepen his understanding of the meaning of, and approach to, heritage in his own discipline, or to explore the interfaces with other disciplines via electives. In the thesis of 18 credits, the student shows that he/she is able to sketch a coherent picture of the history of a landscape, city, region or place, and can make a creative contribution to (thinking about) the integration of old values and new developments in city and country.
