Humanities (research)

2022-2023

The Humanities Research Master is a unique programme that provides extensive training in research design within an inspiring interdisciplinary research environment; it prepares students for an international academic career or research-related positions outside academia. Gain in-depth knowledge of the theories, methods and techniques of your research field. Learn to connect with other academic areas and develop your research skills and ability to pose innovative questions. Learn to connect research with societal issues and to communicate results to a broad audience. Students benefit from the extensive network our teams have established with heritage institutions, research institutes, NGO’s and business partners for internships and embedded research projects.

Students enrol in the Humanities research master through one of the following tracks:

  • Critical Studies in Art and Culture
  • Global History
  • Linguistics (Human Language Technology or Forensic Linguistics)
  • Literature and Contested Spaces
  • Philosophy

Once you selected a track, you can follow the set curriculum of that particular track (including electives) or opt for one of the cross-cutting themes; Environmental Humanities and Digital Humanities. They showcase the expertise of researchers at the Faculty of Humanities and serve as a focal point within the Humanities Research Master. This option allows you to take courses from different tracks that focus on environmental issues or digital techniques and apply these to your discipline.

In connection with the covid measures, admissions for the academic year 2022 allow exceptions to the ‘BA-before-MA rule’, see the addendum to the Teaching and Examination Regulations
