The Master programme Drug Discovery Sciences focusses on the early drug discovery process from a chemical and molecular perspective. Within the programme, you can specialize in Molecular Pharmacology (how can I modulate a biochemical process?), Synthesis of Drugs (how can I synthesize a drug for a specific target?), Molecular Toxicology (how are drugs metabolized in the human body and how can they cause toxicity?), Bioanalytics (how can I detect and measure specific molecules in the human body?) and Computer-Aided Drug Design (how can I predict the interaction between molecules and proteins?).
In their first year, students are trained with in-depth track-specific courses, which they can combine with other theoretical courses to obtain a broader theoretical understanding of the modern pharmaceutical industry to be able to collaborate within a broader, multidisciplinary context. Students can apply and enhance their knowledge and academic skills in an individual research project, literature thesis or extra courses. Attention to personal development and academic skills is given in the course “Research Skills and Career Perspectives”. In the second year, students can do more internships, courses or their thesis (Research profile), follow courses from the master Management and Policy Analysis (Societal and Communication profiles) or train to become a licensed high school teacher (Education profile).
