Law

2026-2027

In the Master's program in Law at the VU, you will learn to analyse and solve legal problems in a critical and scientifically responsible manner. The programme focuses not only on knowing the law but also on how the law can be applied for the benefit of people and society. Traditionally, the Master's program in Law prepares students for the so-called legal professions. The requirements for these professions, as outlined in the Civil Effect agreement between the law faculties, the Council for the Judiciary, and the Bar Association, form the core of the program. This is reflected in the deepening and/or broadening of core subjects in private law, criminal law, and (international) public law at the appropriate academic level. With the Master's program in Law at VU, you have many opportunities. The Master's program is characterized by its breadth and the freedom to choose from 10 specializations within a cohesive curriculum. Three of these specializations are offered in English:

  1. International Migration and Refugee Law
  2. International Technology Law
  3. European and International Law

Each student within a specialization follows the following components (60 ECTS):

  • Legal Methodology (6 ECTS)
  • An Advanced Course (12 ECTS)
  • An Internationalization Course (6 ECTS)
  • An Integrative Course (6 ECTS)
  • A Restricted Elective Course (6 ECTS)
