Master’s program English Literature: Writing the 21st Century

This Master’s programme focuses on the relationship between contemporary literature and the political, ecological, and cultural forces that shape the twenty-first century. Through the study of contemporary literature in English and cultural and literary theory, students learn to analyse how narratives register, question, and reshape the world around us. The programme explores a wide range of twenty-first-century literary and cultural forms, including novels, comics, and graphic narratives. Particular attention is paid to the ways in which narrative, form, and aesthetics create new possibilities for understanding issues such as identity, illness, disability, care, and social change. The courses in this program are closely linked to the current research of staff members so that students are involved in cutting-edge developments. In addition, they are encouraged to explore their interests in depth using the tools and theories they are provided with, culminating in their research project when they write their MA-thesis in the second semester.
