Course Content
In this minor it’s all about the moving body. A healthy lifestyle including sufficient physical activity is important in prevention of many health conditions. But what is considered to be an active lifestyle and how can we measure physical inactivity and sedentary behavior? These topics will be addressed at the start of this minor. Another topic is the moving healthy body during sports and physical performance. During the minor we will address how to optimize movement and physical performance of adult and pediatric patients with musculoskeletal and neurological disorders, with an emphasis on disturbed motor function of the lower and upper limbs, and its consequences for daily life. A multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinical physicians will discuss different methods of diagnostics, treatment and consequences of disorders in the field of traumatology, orthopedics, rheumatology, rehabilitation medicine and pediatric rehabilitation medicine.
Furthermore, your clinical and practical skills will be improved by participation in several workshops and practicals. Amongst others, you will learn to perform a standard physical examination of muscles and bones, measure daily physical activity and sedentary behavior, and assess deviations in walking performance (e.g. gait) using clinical gait analysis.
As in most of the other minors, we will also address skills for 1. critical reading and writing of scientific papers and 2. Writing a research proposal.
