Course ObjectiveLanguage knowledge: the student should be able to communicate in simple
everyday life situations, in short and clear messages, like introducing
yourself, booking a room in a hotel, going shopping, talking about
famility and living situations. Cultural knowledge: the student should
be able to chat about basic things of Brazil and Brazilian culture, like
food and music, and to talk about their own culture.
Course ContentThis Portuguese course is equivalent to the level A1 (+) in the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages. The main themes are:
pronunciation, orthography; travel, hotel, house and family vocabulary;
and grammatical skills, such as word order and verb inflection. The
course has a communicative approach and it encourages students to
research more about the Portuguese speaking communities and Brazil.

Grammar exercises (activity on paper and correction online).
Extra class reading and writing activities.
Music and video on Canvas.
Method of AssessmentPresentations and writing exercises during the period (10%).
Grammatical skills and writing exam (70%). Oral Exam (20%).
