Course ObjectiveThe aim of the course is to acquire an overview of current issues in
historical theory. Students will be able to analyse texts on historical
theory and evaluate them, and present arguments in favor of or against
certain positions in the debates among historical theorists.
Course ContentThis course is concerned with current themes in historical theory such
as historical experience, representation, commemoration, the persona of
the historian, truth, historical injustice, and deconstruction. We will
read articles about these themes and each student will adopt one of the
themes in which he/she will become an expert. Students present their
findings in class. This course addresses the questions: What is history?
and Why should we study it? The course is open to all interested in
