Course ObjectiveThe objective of the course is to expose students to Business Analytics
in Microsoft Excel. More specifically, after this course, the student
should be able to:
1. use Excel for Business Analytics purposes,
2. model practical business problems in Excel,
3. solve optimization problems in Excel,
4. write a clear and concise management report,
5. give a clear presentation on the solution of a practical use case.
Course ContentThe course deals with business modeling and optimization techniques in
Excel. Students will be exposed to simplified business problems that can
be solved with methods and techniques that they have been taught in
previous courses. This project will also enhance Excel skills and
further develop business and academic writing. The project is finalized
by individual oral presentations.
Teaching MethodsDuring the course, students will work individually as well as in groups
of at most 3 persons.
Method of AssessmentThe final assessment is based on individual Excel assignments (that
count for 30% of the final grade), a
management report for the group assignment (that counts for 40% of the
final grade), and individual oral
presentations (that count for 30% of the final grade). There are no
resit options for this course.
