Doel vak

When you finish this course, the objective is that you (1) are able to
understand and apply academic articles on the topic of leadership and
change management.
Further, our objective is that you (2) show command political
skill and behavioral flexibility to adapt one's framing of the change
problem and proposed interventions in order to achieve common ground.
Final objective is that you (3) acquire and demonstrate social and
communication skills to explain the
rationale for change and create buy-in for a proposed strategic
intervention, in a multi-stakeholder context. Finally, we expect
students shows self-reflective skills through accurate self-knowledge on
their own strengths and challenges, critically self-evaluation, and an
ability to visualize and formulate their own growth trajectory.

Inhoud vak

In this course, we try to simulate the role of a leader in an
organizational change context. In this course, try to apply some
elements of gamification, such that we create an interactive an playful
learning environment. To manage expectations, this course is NOT a
serious game in the sense of a sealed-off virtual environment, we have
incorporated the most important and defining feature of a serious game,
namely that, through class exercises, you obtain knowledge and skills
that are applicable and useful in your real life (e.g., as a change
leader in future cases).
In the last two years, the students were able to present their change
plans to the (top management) board of ABN AMRO. Apart from the
leadership-related skills (i.e., a third iteration of a debate,
negotiating skills, listening, power usage), this course also functions
as a final test of knowledge in the area of change leadership. This also
means you will learn about 6 basic change approaches and learn to view a
change problem from (a combination of) those perspectives. There will be
a good number of "papar markets' (interactive paper discussions) about
academic articles on this matter and a written exam.

Vereiste voorkennis

In this course, we assume that students know what a change plan is, and
how it is made. For students who do not know this yet, we expect some
extra effort from them to acquire this knowledge during during the
course. Naturally, the teacher will provide a detailed overview of what
is expected in such a plan.
