Doel vakIn line with the approach taken in the Master TSCM program, the thesis
is the proof of students' academic abilities and knowledge on a specific
TSCM topic. This work applies the knowledge students acquired in the
TSCM program. A thesis is the result of a rigorous investigation of a
research question by using methodologies learned during the courses,
with the purpose to solve an applied research problem (which is either
academically inspired or based on an actual problem in practice). The
content of the thesis should be scientifically as well as practically
Inhoud vakThe TSCM thesis follows the structure of articles published in the most
notorious Supply Chain, Logistics, and Operations Management journals.
As a general rule of thumb, it is advisable to consult papers from
journals in the field (e.g., Management Science, Operations Research,
Manufacturing & Service
Operations Management, Transportation Science, Production and Operations
Management). These journals are useful as examples to check how good
papers / different sections are written.
OnderwijsvormThe thesis will follow the structure of an academic journal paper and is
limited in the word count.
ToetsvormThe thesis assessment will be carried out by evaluating:
1. The research question and introduction
2. The literature review
3. The research design
4. The description and analysis of the results
5. Conclusion and discussion of theoretical and managerial implications
6. Editorial quality (readability and copy editing)
7. Degree of independence
Overige informatieThe thesis must be written within the period January-June and there is
one moment of entry only. You select a thesis topic based on a list
provided in November or by submitting your own proposal. Thesis topics
are allocated to students before Christmas. The progress on a thesis
will be frequently monitored through meetings that supervisors will
schedule. Supervisors can decide to organize meetings in the form of
workshops to give and provide feedback on students' developments.
Students must pay attention to these deadlines because missed deadlines
imply a missed opportunity to get feedback on a specific session and its
related thesis topic. Supervisors do not organize additional meetings if
a student misses a deadline without any serious motivation. Because
there is a constant student turnover every year, the thesis supervision
expires in September even if a student has not used any supervision time
by this date.
Aanbevolen voorkennisAlthough students are expected to use their acquired knowledge, new
research skills and methodologies may be required during the project to
properly fulfill all thesis requirements.
