Doel vak

After a successful completion of this course a student is able to:
• analyze (stylized) real-life supply chain settings, identify factors
that influence supply chain strategies, and formulate managerial
• determine and manage inventory and service levels, evaluate different
distribution or transport alternatives and implement different logistics
• build spreadsheet models to support supply chain decision making.

Inhoud vak

A supply chain consists of all the parties that are involved in
fulfilling a customer request. Effective supply chain management
involves the management of supply chain assets and products, information
and financial resources to create maximum value for all partners
involved. As such, supply chain management is an essential component of
any professional organization, regardless of whether they are active in
the profit or non-for-profit, manufacturing or services industry.

This course introduces students to key supply chain strategies, drivers
for supply chain performance and how they contribute to overall company
performance. In particular, the course wants to offer insight in the
managerial relevance of inventory and transportation decisions and how
they can be supported by quantitative models.

IMPORTANT: This module introduces students to the fundamentals of
network analysis from the perspectives of business. It is required for
students with a background in either economics or (econometrics and)
operations research, whereas students with a background in business
should NOT attend this module.


Lectures, working groups, and computer tutorials


Digital examination: The exam mainly consists of open questions testing
both in-depth understanding and application of supply chain concepts and
models to exercises and mini cases.
