Inhoud vakThis course takes a deep dive into the mind, heart and actions of the
individual entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship as the creation of new value
requires individuals to take action. Individuals, in other words, must
take a leap into the unknown to discover or create new value. Despite
the uncertainty and potential loss, entrepreneurs' creative actions
often benefit society by revealing new value for stakeholders, thus
collectively move societies and economies into a new future. In this
course, we will examine (1) why, when, and how opportunities for the
creation of goods and services come into existence; (2) why, when, and
how some people and not others discover and exploit these opportunities;
and (3) why, when, and how different modes of action are used to exploit
entrepreneurial opportunities. These questions have long been of
interest of politicians, academics and potential entrepreneurs
themselves, because if we can provide a scientifically valid answer to
them, it is possible to stimulate socio-economic development and inform
better policy, education and practice. To explore what we know and do
not know about these two questions, we delve into the heart of ongoing
entrepreneurship scholarship. In particular, we will review competing
and complementary answers, including intention, motivation, cognition,
social inclusion, emotions and behavioral theories.
