Doel vak

ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH SKILLS – Student can conduct a basic international
research project from start to finish

ACADEMIC SKILLS (THREE AS)
After successfully completing this course, the student
• can analyze and demonstrate an understanding of problems from
different perspectives (Analysis)
• is able to recognize fundamental structures and to leave out
irrelevant information (Abstraction)
• is able to put forward well-founded, substantiated points of view,
both in spoken and written format (Argumentation)

RESEARCH SKILLS
After successfully completing this course, the student
• is able to critically reflect on (the quality of) academic research
• is able to translate practically relevant problems into academically
relevant research questions
• can apply basic research skills needed to complete a part of a
research process, both quantitative as well as qualitative

BRIDGING THEORY AND PRACTICE

KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrates theoretical and empirical knowledge concerning
the relevant areas in international business administration
After successfully completing this course, the student:
• can explain the basic theories, models and concepts related research
philosophy and business research
• is able to make connections between those theories, models, and
concepts

SOCIAL SKILLS – STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE DIFFERENT
PROFESSIONAL ROLES IN A CROSS-CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT

After successfully completing this course, the student:
• is able to communicate in academic English in writing
BROADENING YOUR HORIZON - STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO REFLECT ON THE ETHICAL
AND SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS OF PROFESSIONAL AND GOVERNMENTAL DECISIONS

After successfully completing this course, the student:
• has a basic understanding of business research from a philosophical
perspective
• can identify a number of current developments in business research
• can explain basic ethical concerns and dilemma’s in business research

Inhoud vak

In order to develop yourself as an academic in an international
landscape you need to be able to critically reflect on, write about, and
eventually also conduct research. In this course you will develop a
fundamental skills set that enables you to thrive as an academic
throughout your further studies and career. Understanding the academic
world and developing related skills starts with understanding the
academic community. Fundamental aspects of this community are related to
different perspectives on research, the art of critical reasoning, and
the language of science. In this course you will reflect on different
perspectives on research, start applying academic skills through
critical reasoning and writing, and work on doing this in fluent
academic English.
