Dit vak wordt in het Engels aangeboden. Omschrijvingen kunnen daardoor mogelijk alleen in het Engels worden weergegeven.

Doel vak

the lives and legacies of Dag Hammarskjöld, Martin Luther King, Sarah
Edwards-Pierpont, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dorothy Day.
2. The student shows insight in making McClendon’s theology conversant
with contemporary theologians, the spiritual climate in which he was

3. The student knows how to ‘translate’ the fruit of this study to the
working floor of the evangelical tradition and Baptist life & tradition.

Inhoud vak

This course prepares students for reading, studying and understanding
McClendon’s theology. It discusses his methodology, his core concepts,
and his approaches of lived faith.
In discussion students reflect on the relevance of McClendon’s theology
for ‘being Church today’. Students are also expected to take part in a
local church, to be participant observers themselves, and to be able to
apply theological insights within living ecclesial practices.

Attendance of classes is required, just like preparation of the
assignments. The student prepares for classes by critical reading of the
designated chapters and articles. During classes the subject matter will
be discussed and deepened.
Justification of hours:
6 ects (= 168 hours). Classes and (preparing for) exam take
approximately 40 hours. 128 hours remain for reading (1) McClendons ST
1, (2) McClendons Biography as Theology, and Ryan Andrew Newson, Andrew
C. Wright (eds.), The Collected Works of James Wm. McClendon, Vol. 2 ,
see the list below (altogether: 335 + 184 + 130 = 649 pages [= 6 pages
