Master Thesis English Literature

Dit vak wordt in het Engels aangeboden. Omschrijvingen kunnen daardoor mogelijk alleen in het Engels worden weergegeven.

Doel vak

Students will acquire theoretical, methodological, and practical
knowledge about conducting research within the field of Literatures in
English: how to write a research proposal; how to plan the work; how to
select both primary and secondary sources; how to use these to construct
your own argument in your thesis.

Inhoud vak

Students will write a thesis of roughly 15,000 to 25,000 words on an
independent topic. They will first be asked to submit an application,
including a topic, research question and tentative bibliography. Then
they will be assigned a supervisor who will help streamline their plan
and provide feedback as the students write the thesis in periods 4 and
5. The deadline for submission of the completed thesis will be announced
on Canvas.

Individual feedback sessions with supervisor in periods 4 and 5.
MA students are encouraged to attend the three thesis colloquium
sessions organized for the BA thesis students.

Students will be assessed on their writing style, cogency of their
arguments, and ability to relate their findings to scholarship at large;
on their finished project, but also on their independence in deciding on
a suitable topic, on gathering information, and the writing process
itself. The supervisor and a second reader will assess the final product
of the MA thesis.
