Modernist aesthetics often used biological and organic metaphors for
art: the artwork as living, breathing form. From the 1960s on, artists
started working with living organisms (animals and plants) in the
context of an ecological "systems" approach. The artwork no longer
mimicked organic growth, but took the form of installations that

In this course, we will look into artistic practices and theories from
the 1960s to the present - from Hans Haacke to Carsten Höller/Rosemarie

The seminar will also take into account the students' interests, and
individual research topics
