museum studies and the specialization area of art history, cultural
studies, design cultures, history or archaeology in the practice of
museums/ cultural institutions.

institutions: Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van
Gogh Museum Amsterdam, Cobra Museum Amstelveen, Nationaal Museum voor
Wereldculturen Leiden (Tropenmuseum), Centraal Museum Utrecht, Museum
Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam, Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, Kröller
Müller Museum Otterlo, Dordrechts Museum, Base for Active Knowledge
(BAK) Utrecht, Jewish Cultural Quarter Amsterdam or Allard Pierson
The concrete content of the internship is dependent on the nature, goal
and programme of the museum or institution and the department where the
student is placed. In consultation with the internship supervisor
(programme coordinator) and the institutional supervisor (curator)
assigned to the student a plan will be devised for the content of the
internship, which will subsequently be monitored at least every three
months. In each museum or institution the following aspects pertinent to
the tasks of a curator will be addressed: organization and policy;
research, archival work, registration of collections (relevant database
systems) and making available of research results; art handling
(procedures around the placement of objects in and outside the museum or
institution); restoration and conservation; representation and
communication; and production (exhibition, symposium or program, other
kinds of displays or presentations). Halfway the programme an evaluation
meeting will be held, and the student completes the internship with an
internship and competence report.
ToetsvormThe supervision is shared by university professors and curators from the
partner institutions, and takes place at least every three months. An
intermediate evaluation will be held halfway the internship. The final
assessment of the internship takes place on the basis of an internship
and competence report written according to guidelines (see internship
Vereiste voorkennisStudents must have taken and passed Collecting, Curating and Display I
and II and 18 ECTS of electives before the beginning of the internship
on 1 February.

Overige informatieThe internship - in which students work as curators-in-training - takes
place over a period of one year, from 1 February to 31 January. Students
are expected to work four days a week. Approximately once in two weeks
the Friday will be devoted to the core module Curatorial Practices in
the Contemporary World I and II. The internship placement is decided
after internships events organised at the VU and the UvA (at which
curators discuss upcoming projects for students), individual visits to
the museums / institutions participating in the programme and an
interview with the programme coordinators.
