Doel vak
After having followed this course, a student- will know which EU directives are important with respect to electronic
b2c-transactions;
- will be able to apply the rules included in EU directives and
regulations to an electronic b2c-transactions;
- will be able to analyse the case law of the European Court of Justitie
with respect to electronic b2c-transactions;
- will be able to review critically the prevailing law with respect to
electronic b2c-transactions using behavioural science literature;
- will be able to apply the prevailing rules to new business models and
will be able to point out new problems.
Inhoud vak
Consumer law deals with transactions between a consumer and aprofessional party. Increasingly, consumers conclude contracts through
internet. The European Union considers this type of transactions, which
is part of the digital market, an important means to increase economic
growth. European consumer law also plays a role in the platform economy.
Contracts concluded by consumers with platforms, such as AirBnB and and
E-bay. This course focuses on the contractual aspects of these
transactions and dispute resolution in national, EU and in international
situations. The starting point is the European Union perspective.
Onderwijsvorm
Each week there will be a lecture and every two weeks a work groupdedicated to discussion of the case law and additional materials as well
as presentations of the assignments.
Toetsvorm
To be able to participate in the written exam, the students are requiredto
hand in three separate assignments.
Vereiste voorkennis
Knowledge of contract law and European law at bachelor-level isrecommended.

The list of literature will be made available on Canvas (the digitallearning environment).

-Contractors (students who pay for one course)
If they have passed a course in Contract Law.
Courses from a master at the faculty can only be taken as a secondary
course if you have a diploma that gives access to the relevant master/
specialization and if you are enrolled in a master.
