Doel vak

The general aim of the peer group learning sessions is to create a
community of students that help each other make good decisions in the
program and in their career, following principles of responsible
research. The sessions contribute to achieve the exit qualifications of
the research master program in judgment formation , communication, and
learning skills.

Inhoud vak

Throughout the entire research master program you meet each other on
Thursday afternoon in biweekly, informal peer group learning sessions,
to discuss issues in the other courses and your personal develop-ment.
While guided by the coordinator, you, as students, are in the lead to
organize these sessions and set the agenda.
The course content and structure are based on insights from the ‘science
of team science’: effectively fostering team diversity and teaching
interpersonal skills in practice is crucial for the creation and
maintenance of high-performing collaborative research teams. The
composition of the research master students is diverse by discipline and
methodological specialization.

The biweekly peer group learning sessions provide a mechanism and a
timeline for periodic progress up-dates and a safe space for reflection
and intervision. The structure of the intervision and group sessions
ensure that all team members voice their opinions about team
functioning. In the intervision sessions, you take the lead. They
suggest topics, prepare the sessions, and preside the meetings.The
teaching methods and assignments are integrated parts of all other
courses throughout the entire research master.

Onderwijsvorm

1. Reflective group sessions: these are jointly prepared by you and the
coordinator. Each pair of students (“buddies”) prepare (at least) one
group session during the two-year program, following a flipped
class-room concept. You set the agenda. The duration of reflective group
sessions is 1 hours and 45 minutes with a 15 minute break.
2. Peer review sessions: these sessions are prepared by you. The
duration of group sessions is 1 hours and 45 minutes with a 15 minute
break.
3. Intervision sessions: you prepare these sessions together with the
coordinator. The duration of group sessions is 1 hours and 45 minutes
with a 15 minute break.
4. Presentations and poster sessions: you prepare either a presentation
or a poster to present the results of a research project.

Toetsvorm

Assessment will take place in the P6 course Research Integrity and
Responsible Scholarship (Y1) and the Master Thesis (Y2). Passing these
courses is conditional upon:
- presence and active participation in the peer group learning sessions
(20%)
- the quality of the peer review assignments, as assessed by teaching
staff and peers (60%)
- peer evaluation (Buddy check) in pairs, and self-evaluation by each
student will be used to obtain a comprehensive summative evaluation
(20%)
