Skills: Argumentation and Logic

Dit vak wordt in het Engels aangeboden. Omschrijvingen kunnen daardoor mogelijk alleen in het Engels worden weergegeven.

Doel vak

The objective of the course is to acquire philosophical skills, i.e.
skills you will need in the other philosophy courses. These include:
identifying claims and reconstructing arguments; evaluating the validity
of arguments; improving existing arguments; constructing definitions and
counterexamples; familiarity with propositional logic, predicate logic,
and syllogistic.

Inhoud vak

Argumentation is the 'bread and butter' of the philosopher, as
philosophical claims must always be supported by reasons/arguments. In
this course, students become acquainted with basic skills of argument
analysis, both informally through diagrammatic analysis of argument
structure, and formally by means of familiar logical systems
(propositional logic, syllogistic, predicate logic).
