2018-2019
Dit vak wordt in het Engels aangeboden. Omschrijvingen kunnen daardoor mogelijk alleen in het Engels worden weergegeven.

Doel vak

After completing this module, the student is able to:
- Understand and describe the differences between multi-, inter- and
transdisciplinary research;
- Develop an interdisciplinary research proposal that acknowledges the
possible challenges and weaknesses of interdisciplinary research;
- Implement the necessary steps to arrive at a research proposal,
including identifying adequate research questions, reviewing literature,
selecting methods and data, and providing structured discussion and
analysis;
- Communicate interdisciplinary research finds to different audiences,
including policy-makers, non-governmental actors and businesses.

Inhoud vak

This module introduces students to the challenges and opportunities of
interdisciplinary research. By discussing the differences between
mono-disciplinary approaches, multi-disciplinarity, inter-disciplinarity
and trans-disciplinarity, the module critically analyzes the theoretical
underpinnings of inter-disciplinarity in the context of global change
research. In addition to providing a meta-theoretical discussion of
doing research, the module also introduces the practical steps necessary
to develop a sound research proposal, including how to identify a
suitable interdisciplinary research question, how to choose adequate
methods, how to analyze data and how to present the findings to varying
audiences. Students work towards a draft research plan on an
interdisciplinary research question of their choice within the GEC&P
domain.
