re-use of
what is already there;

places with heritage value on location.
3) are able to analyze and reflect on transformation proposals,
in terms of content, visualization methods and hidden meanings, in such
a way that you are able to formulate critical questions for designers on
their work;
4) are able to communicate (listening, interviewing, argumentation,
debating) with your peers and with designers explaining and advocating
their designs;
5) are able to reflect on your role as a cultural historian in spatial
design transformation processes, in such a way that you can choose a

Inhoud vak

Transformations: Meeting Designers brings together heritage and plans
for spatial transformations. By discussing and visiting heritage
transformations, students learn to understand how these processes take
shape, in all their spatial, cultural, economic and social aspects and
on different scales. Therewith, it offers an outlook on professional
practice. The course consists of lectures, excursions and a group
project. In the lectures and in the literature, Dutch as well as
international examples of reuse and transformation of heritage will be
analysed and discussed. To enhance understanding of these practices,
students will study a specific region or problem in groups with mixed
backgrounds (for example an urban transformation project). This will
result in a presentation of (design) solutions, including an
approach of heritage renewal. In order to develop their own perspective
on heritage in transformations, students are expected to write a
reflective essay.
