Inhoud vak

This course consists of three 2.5 hour lectures (with discussion and
reading of literature) and a number of assignments.
The lectures (at the beginning, at mid-term, and at the end of the
course) aim at learning you to identify and
(philosophically/conceptually) analyze key-concepts in neuroscientific
research and in the translation of neuroscientific findings to clinical
and societal contexts. As a result you will learn to address
philosophical issues that are implied in the conceptualization of
neuroscientific findings.
The assignments consist of (a.o.)
- an extensive interview with an experienced researcher in the field of
neuroscience, with the aim of identifying and analyzing key concepts and
key metaphors for translation
- participation in the monthly neurophilosophy research group
- reading and (written) conceptual analysis of a relevant text with a
focus on key concepts and key metaphors for translation
- presentation, at the end of the course, of what you have learned from
the analysis of the interview, analysis of the text and discussions in
the neurophilophy research group.

The assignments and other contributions are evaluated
on the basis of the following points:
- Quality of the analyses: conceptual rigor and refinement; ability to
connect what has been found with broader philosophical issues and themes
