Doel vak

After completing this course you:
- are familiar with the most important contemporary positions and
concepts regarding the mind-body problem
- can explain the main philosophical issues surrounding the mind-body
- are able to critically engage with these issues in your area of
- are able to present, discuss and analyze these issues both verbally
and in writing

Inhoud vak

The question of how the mind is related to the body, also known as the
"mind-body problem", is one of the most important problems in
philosophy. In this advanced master course we will discuss the state of
the art of this problem, focusing on contemporary debates between
traditional brain-bound views of cognition and recent ‘4E Cognition’
approaches, according to which cognition is embodied, embedded, enacted
and extended.

Written assignment (20%), oral presentation (20%), paper proposal
(sufficient), final paper (60%)
