Political Science

Does the rise of China call for a new world order? How can we ensure that countries and companies tackle climate change? And is there a future for democracy? During the Master’s programme Political Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, you learn to understand politics in the light of global developments such as the changing world order, climate crisis, growing inequality, populism, globalizing markets and technological advancements.

The international and research-oriented Master’s programme will deepen your knowledge of international relations, global environmental governance and comparative politics, and specialize in one of our three specialisations. In the Master, the core debates in Political Science are studied from various theoretical perspectives, applied to the big societal questions and case-based analysis, and with due attention to qualitative and quantitative methodological training. You will practice how to conduct independent research and be acquainted with the pertinent topics and approaches within the programme’s three specialisations: Democracy, Power and Inequality, International Relations, Security and Global Order and Global Environmental Governance, Sustainability and Climate Change.
