Economics

2026-2027

The Master’s in Economics is designed for ambitious students with a strong academic background in economics who want to deepen their expertise and prepare for the demands of a rapidly changing world. The programme trains you to become a highly skilled economist who can address complex challenges with both microeconomic and macroeconomic dimensions. You develop the core skills that set economists apart: model-based thinking, microeconomic analysis, macroeconomic reasoning and econometric skills.

The programme provides a rigorous analytical and quantitative foundation through advanced core courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics. You learn to use economic models to simplify complex realities, identify the mechanisms that matter, test economic hypotheses, and draw policy conclusions using statistical and mathematical techniques applied to economic data. Throughout the programme, you engage with academic literature, learn to recognise key contributions to the field of economics, and develop the ability to translate theory and evidence into actionable advice for public and private decision-makers.

Field courses, the Research Project and the master’s thesis allow you to apply these tools to real-life societal and market challenges, including issues related to globalisation, development, public health, climate change, urban and regional economics, regulation, finance and data analysis. You learn to work both independently and in groups, to present research findings clearly to expert and non-expert audiences, and to critically assess proposed answers to important social, societal and economic problems. The programme also encourages you to identify and address gaps in your own knowledge and skills, helping you develop as a reflective professional and an all-round economist. Through its combination of rigorous academic training, a small-scale learning environment and personal supervision, the programme prepares you for careers in consulting, banking, government, international organisations, research institutes and academia.
