The Research Master Theology and Religious Studies prepares students for a doctorate trajectory and a career as a researcher, either in the academic world or elsewhere. Students have the possibility to defne their own study route by choosing electives, choosing a suitable internship and writing their thesis. Moreover, they follow general courses, such as Academic Writing and Presenting, and Research Design. Two electives (Personal Tutorial 1 and 2) can be tailored to their own research interests.
Electives concentrate on the themes of the faculty's research foci. These include, but are not limited to:
- Peace, Trauma and Religion
- Biblical Studies and Digital Humanities
- Bible Translation
- New Testament and Early Christianities
- Contextual Bible Interpretation
- Reformed and Evangelical Theology
- Exegesis of Old and New Testament
- Engaged Buddhism
- Religious Heritage
- Theory of Islamic Spiritual Care
- Spiritualiteit en transitie [Dutch]
- Psychedelica en zingevng [Dutch]
Programme
The research master's programme consists of:
- 8 electives (5 in the first year, 3 n the second year)
- 4 General Required Modules (2 in the first year, 2 in the second year): Critical Hermeneutics and Global CItizenship, Academic Writing and Presenting, Humanties Research Career Preparation and Research Design
- Either Digital Humanities or Philosophical and Historical Aspects of the Humanities
- One of the electives must be filled in by courses or workshops from a national research group, e.g. NOSTER.
