Doel vak

Studying primary and secondary literature about famous sociologists and
economists. At the end of the course, the student will be able to
comprehend basic sociological and economic theories and apply them in
historical research.

Inhoud vak

Knowledge and insight into the scientific ideas of famous sociologists
and economists like Max Weber, Norbert Elias, Adam Smih, David Ricardo
and others. Acquiring basic knowledge about the relatioship between
domestic and international economics. Acquiring some basic skills to use
these insights in understanding historical research.

Onderwijsvorm

Eight seminars of two or three hours each. Mandatory attendance: at
least 90% attendence is required. Half the seminars are reserved for
sociology, the other half is reserved for studying economicsand
economists.

Toetsvorm

Four assignments about sociology and sociologists, four assignments
about economists and international economics.

Literatuur

Articles (on Canvas) besides the book of Mart de Jong, Icons of
Sociology (2007). Digitally available at the UBVU.

Students of BA2 History and International Studies

Overige informatie

This course is not open for students following the Dutch BA-track
'Geschiedenis'.
