Doel vak
The Study & Career course intends to activate our students to thinking more professionally and in an engaged manner about their study, internships and future careers as biomedical scientists.
Inhoud vak
During year 2, the students will now put what they learned from the workshops and assignments from year 1 into practice by producing their own learning portfolio. Topics covered during year 2 themed workshops include: presentation skills, poster and scientific figure design, networking, job market orientation, job application & CV preparation. For the final portfolio, students need to justify, design, carry out, and reflect on their own self-directed professional development project (PDProject).
NB: This course runs across 2 academic years. All components from year 1 (AM_1258) must be completed & submitted in order to obtain 3 EC study credits during this year.

Toetsvorm
The 2nd year course consists of n=6 summative assignments that should be kept for inclusion in your final portfolio (summative) to demonstrate the 5 course learning components successfully.
This course will be assessed with a pass/fail.
Deadlines for course schedule will be communicated via the course manual & using CANVAS.
Vereiste voorkennis
All second year VU Master Biomedical Sciences students are required to take this course. This course is not open for external candidates.
The course AM_1258 STUDY AND CAREER YEAR 1 M BMED (0 EC) needs to be passed to be able to pass this course.

Use of AI, according to levels set by the VU (level 2b): Use of generative AI is permitted in a limited way, with disclosure.
In this course, generative AI (GenAI), such as ChatGPT or similar tools, may be used in a limited way, for example for editorial support, rephrasing, or structure. Substantive contributions from GenAI may only be used within the limits set by the lecturer. Any use of GenAI must always be explicitly disclosed, in accordance with the lecturer's instructions. The student remains fully responsible for the content, quality, and accuracy of the submitted work. Incorrect use of GenAI is considered fraud. If established, the submitted work or assessment result will be declared invalid, and the Examination Board may impose further measures.

Canvas instructions will follow at the beginning of the academic year.
After the course has started, students should sign up for their workshop groups on Canvas, according to their own study timetable. Deadlines for the course will be communicated via the course manual & using CANVAS.
